First for everything

31May09

Yesterday was one of those days that I was shooting event styles for the very first time. The first was a memorial for a young Carleton University student that died in the Ottawa river last week. Friends, family, classmates and supporters held a candle light vigil at Britannia Beach, near the place where Algonquin College computer student Fangzheng Meng, 28, and Carleton University arts student Chen Yuan, 20, were last seen alive.

The mother of Chen Yuan -with"E" on sweater-with family and friends at the edge of the Ottawa River at Britannia Beach Saturday night, calling out the name of her son, who was last seen on the water in a boat with his friend Fanzheng Meng a week ago. The two men are presumed drowned though their bodies have not been found.

The seconed assignment I went on last night with my Sun Buddie Andre Forget was a Roller Derby that was right down the road from me. Roller Derby has returned to Ottawa, and fans are happy with the idea of it. Saturday night at Barbara Ann Scott Arena, hundreds turned out to watch the Slaughter Daughters of Ottawa take on the Tri-City Thunder.

  1. Powerful shots there, Chris.

  2. 2 Daniel Bird

Those first two shots are so sad. The writing for this post is pretty good, though.
