Week two of protesting

Pro-Tamil demonstrators filled the lawn of Parliament Hill Tuesday afternoon, with RCMP estimating the crowd at 10,000. Amid a sea of umbrellas, the crowd chanted and carried banners calling for an end to what they termed a “genocide” in Sri Lanka.

Gone from Tuesday’s demonstration were the red flags that many associate with the banned Tamil Tigers, a group considered by Canada to be a terrorist organization. Instead, demonstrators marched in the grey drizzle waving

tamil2Canadian flags and stark black banners, symbolic, the demonstrators said, of the civilians killed in the military offensive by the Sri Lankan government.

The demonstrators are demanding the Canadian government intervene to force a ceasefire in Sri Lanka. tamil3

I heard the protest when I was walking by Parliament this afternoon. Those drums were really loud.
